The three pillars of mobile Internet, chip OS companies compete for entry
according to the Research Report of ABI research, in 2011, the global mobile terminal chip revenue increased by more than 20%, reaching $35billion, while the total semiconductor market increased by only 2% last year. According to the prediction of prism, another research organization, the compound growth rates of smart and tablet computers from 2010 to May and after the end of the experiment in 2015 are 27% and 53% respectively, which is the fastest-growing field in the whole consumer electronics industry. By 2015, the shipments of smart and tablet computers are expected to reach 900million and 250million respectively, which means that by 2015, the market demand for mobile terminal chips will reach an amazing 1.1 billion. It is this huge market potential that attracts all semiconductor giants to participate in this extremely fierce competition
intelligence is falling into the "processor race", and the processor war has been staged in the PC market for many years. Factors such as dominant frequency, multi-core, operating system and design are becoming a new reference standard for consumers to buy intelligence. "The more cores, the better. Is that right?" In fact, this may not be the case on this issue. In fact, because the communication and synchronization between cores of multi-core processors require more additional overhead (instruction processing time), adding cores to processors must reduce the maximum frequency of each core, that is, adding cores requires reducing the maximum frequency of each core, which is a dilemma. Therefore, a multi-core solution is of practical value only if the software is very efficient in using the core, enough to offset the additional overhead caused by multi-core. In fact, there are few software that can make full use of the advantages of multi-core processors
"Ericsson is a staunch supporter of multi-core processor architecture. We believe that the current fast dual core processor can meet the needs of most smart multi-core applications that must ensure the smoothness of the line when protecting, and we also focus our next-generation platform development on such a dual core processor architecture platform," said Yan Fengxue, marketing director of Ericsson China, "When the degree of parallelism of software is improved, and there are smaller chip designs to optimize power consumption, then we will see the advantages brought by multi-core processor architecture over dual core. Of course, with the development of software and related technologies, we firmly believe that the mobile communication industry will move from dual core to Quad core processor era."

"we believe that in the future, mobile terminals will have higher and higher requirements for high-intensity multitask processing and multimedia processing," Cyril closer, market manager of Ti wireless business, said, "Mobile applications can benefit from interdependent work distributed on multiple processors, which can achieve smooth performance and fast response. However, in fact, most applications are currently single threaded or have dominant single threaded tasks or processes, so they cannot be partitioned in a large number of CPU cores on a platform. Due to this market reality, our latest omap5 series processors provide two A15 cores, It can achieve higher single thread performance than any existing ARM processor. The unique feature of OMAP 5 Series multi-core architecture is that two M4 cores are used to effectively supplement two A15 cores. The M-level kernel can appropriately allocate various multimedia processing tasks such as real-time control video encoding and decoding, and liberate the main CPU kernel to manage the pointer moving fast and slow as the system task when the advanced operation loads. In addition to minimizing the interrupt rate of cortex-a15 kernel, this load sharing function can also achieve immeasurable energy saving. For example, when encoding and decoding high-definition H.264 content, the system power consumption drops sharply by 10%. "
Robert A. Rango, executive vice president of Broadcom and general manager of mobile and wireless business unit, believes that smart and tablet computers are rapidly integrating the main functions of PC, while providing a more affordable mobile platform. The two most important development trends of intelligent mobile terminals are as follows: 1) the increasing number of users using mobile devices for media consumption (especially watching videos); 2) Wireless connection technology provides support for new use cases and applications. The number of video sources continues to increase, and the video content that can be played by mobile devices is increasingly rich. Of all the video content that can be accessed through the data network, most of the content is viewed using mobile devices (rather than PCs). This trend shows that users have an increasingly urgent need for powerful and ultra-low power graphics and image processing capabilities, as well as the need to improve the speed of mobile devices on Wi Fi to reduce the burden of cellular video traffic, because the current network congestion has been overwhelmed. In addition to Wi Fi, other key wireless connection technologies that can transform the use of mobile devices include low-power Bluetooth, NFC and outdoor/indoor location technology. Each technology can enrich the user experience alone, and when integrated, it can create truly unique applications
